5 iPod playlists for effective workouts
I should have skied yesterday. Instead, I skated, sac michael kors, slipped, jogged, walked and tripped my way through an accidental multi sport workout around Lake Calhoun. I wanted to run, but these warmer temps melted and then refroze our blanket of Christmas snow turning the lake paths into an icy goto spot for broken bones, twisted ankles and knee sprains.
Had I chosen to hit the slopes I must admit that my chances of injury would have been no better. I am a terrible skiier. Therefore, for this compilation, I enlisted the help of friends, family and internet sources. While there were some similarities between suggested songs, the most distinctive characteristic of a great skiing playlist seems to be personal preference. However, I will gingerly offer the following suggestion. When compiling your list for the slopes, look for songs that are "thinner" instrumentally. That is, a song that doesn't slam so much sound in your ears that you can't hear the person coming at you who is screaming for you to get out of the way. There is a good chance that the screaming person will be me and I'd hate to think that I could cause a ski slope disaster because I recommended an inappropriate playlist.
In all seriousness, songs by solo artists and acoustic tracks can provide a stellar ski soundtrack but still offer enough quiet sound space to allow awareness of your surroundings. Check out this playlist which combines a variety of formats and remember to use the Genius feature of iTunes to compile a personalized list if you find one or two tracks that work.
